Year R Daily Routine and Timetable

A Day in Year R

 

8.40am-9.00am- Funky Fingers

As the children arrive, they choose an activity to support their fine motor development. These activities include threading, pegging, cutting, tracing, transferring and lots more. 

 

 

9.05am- Phonics

Our first lesson of the day is Phonics. We start with Phase 1 were we learn to listen to different sounds and about the rhythm and rhyme in words. We then move on to learning Phase 2 and 3 sounds and Tricky Words. Our lessons follow the scheme of Little Wandle Letters and Sounds. At the end of the lesson we practise writing the taught sounds in our handwriting books. 

 

9.30am- Assembly 

We join the rest of the school for a whole school assembly. We listen to stories, sing, exercise and on Fridays we have a celebration assembly. 

 

 

9.45am- Daily Mile

Everyday we go into the playground and run/jog for 15 minutes. This helps to improve our fitness, concentration levels, mood, behaviour and general wellbeing. 

 

10.00am- Play Time 

After our Daily Mile we have time to play in the playground. The physical development toys are out to support our Gross Motor Development. We enjoy playing football, basketball and going on the tower and pirate ship!

 

10.15am- Expressive Arts and Design/ Literacy Input

Each week we have a book of the week. We use this book to complete an art and writing activity. We learn how to write labels, captions and sentences. We listen to different types of books such as fiction, non-fiction and poetry. 

 

10.30am- Teacher Led Activity/Child Initiated Learning/Snack Time

We have one Expressive Art and Design task and one Literacy task to complete with the teacher each week. We often create a picture then write about it. When we are not working with the teacher we can choose our own learning. We can free-flow between each classroom, the big room and the outdoor classroom. The adults in Year R observe our play and move our learning on in the moment. We are also able to have snack during this time. 

 

11.45am/12.00pm- Lunch Time 

We go to the dining room to have our lunch. Most of us have a hot lunch and some of us have a pack lunch from home. After we have finished lunch we wash our hands and go into the playground with the rest of the school. 

 

1.00pm- Maths Input 

We start our afternoon with a Maths input. We learn about numbers, shapes, addition, subtraction, doubling, halving and lots more! We often use Number Blocks to support our learning. 

 

 

1.15pm- Teacher Led Activity/Child Initiated Learning/Snack Time

We have one-two Maths tasks to complete with the teacher each week.  When we are not working with the teacher we can choose our own learning. We can free-flow between each classroom, the big room, the outdoor classroom and the bikes. The adults in Year R observe our play and move our learning on in the moment. We are also able to have snack during this time. 

 

2.30pm- Music/Story/Song/Poem Time

We end our day with a story and then either sing a song together or listen to poems. We then get our things together ready to go home. On Monday's we end our day with a weekly music lesson using Charanga. Here we learn to play instruments and sing songs together. 

 

3.00pm- Home Time

After a busy day we are ready to go home. Willow Class goes into the kitchen to be collected and Pine Class gets collected from the Year R gate.
