Phonics and Spelling

In Year 2 we concentrate on Phonics Phase 6. We also revisit Phase 5 in order to ensure that your child becomes a confident and fluent speller. 

When hearing your child read please try to use decoding strategies by referring to the blends that are shown in the Phonics Phases.

When spelling, your child needs to sound words out before writing them. The tricky words need to be learnt as they cannot be sounded out.

Each child has their own online access to Reading Eggs and Fast Phonics using their school login details. Fast Phonics is an online synthetic phonics programme that helps children become strong readers.
