1st March 2021

Hello Year 2,

We hope that you all had an enjoyable Art and English Week. Thank you for sending photographs of your fantastic art work for our ‘Virtual Art Gallery’. If you haven’t managed to see this yet please click the ‘Art Week’ icon to see some amazing work!

This week in Phonics we are learning to add the suffix -er.

In English we have planned lots of lovely work based on ‘The Kindness Elves’ book.

In Maths we are spending the week learning about the properties of 2-D shapes, sorting 2-D shapes in different ways and making shape patterns.

In the afternoons we will be learning about food chains in Science, staring a new topic called ‘Island Homes’ in Geography and learning about a technique called pointillism in Art.

Don’t forget there are lots of P.E. links to try including a 30 minute video lesson by a local tennis coach and optional daily well-being activities to complete.

It is World Book Day on Thursday 4th March so look out for some fun activities on the Weekly Planner!

The theme this year is 'Share a story'. Here is a link to 'Share A Story Corner' videos

https://www.worldbookday.com/share-a-story-corner/  where you can find familiar characters, easy to follow stories, and tips for reading together. Look at the pictures, guess what the characters are up to and think about what might happen next.  Sharing stories boosts creativity and imaginationimproves wellbeing, is a positive experience everyone! – and is great fun!

There is also a link to ‘World of Stories Audiobooks’ to listen to  https://www.worldbookday.com/world-of-stories/

Take part in our Reading Challenge created to encourage reading at home and find lots of exciting ways you can share stories – not just at bedtime! Tick off a Reading Star each time you complete a reading task and receive your World Book Day certificate when you complete all 12 challenges! Please email a photograph of your completed Reading Challenge and you will receive a Reading Challenge certificate when you return to school.

Finally, look out for the World Book Day Rainbow on Thursday to hear lots more exciting stories!

Remember the plan is here as a guide, please don't worry if you can't complete it all.

We know that you have been working incredibly hard since we were last all together in school and we want you to know how proud we are of you.

We are really looking forwards to seeing you all next week!
