Miss Hayward's Class

Welcome to Miss Hayward's Class!

We hope you enjoy reading all about us on our class page!  In RCH, you will meet our class teacher, Miss Hayward and our Learning Support Assistants: Mrs Barnett and Mrs McGarvie. There is also Bertie, our class bear and our pet snail, George. They are both very friendly!

Our day starts with a Phonics lesson, where we learn the letter sounds that will help us read and write. Phonics is great fun and we particularly like being ‘Sound Detectives’. There is an adult focused activity each day, where we learn something new in Communication, Language and Literacy or Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy. We also choose our own learning where we use the resources to learn indoors and outside.

In the afternoons we explore our topic (our Curriculum Newsletter will tell you the topics this term), continue to learn independently through playful activities and finish our day with a story and songs. On Wednesdays, we have a PE session and we visit the Cocoa Pod to learn how to work on computers. Thursday afternoons are great because we have the opportunity to cook!

Every Friday, a child in our class takes home Pip the Bear for the weekend. They keep a diary of what Pip gets up to and share this with the rest of the class on a Monday morning.  Pip has had some very exciting weekends so far!

Our days are filled with learning in a playful, exciting way - we explore, discover, experiment, investigate and communicate. We respond to the children's interests, needs and what is happening in the world around them. Throughout the school year, Reception has some very exciting themed days and school trips, which extend our learning outside of the classroom.

The Reception environment lets us explore and discover things for ourselves.  We have lots of fun in our outside area and very much enjoy dancing and acting on the stage in our shared ‘Big Room’.  We often visit the environmental area where we listen to stories, look for hidden numbers and letters or just explore the environment.

We always ask our parents to label everything with your child’s full name, particularly school clothes and PE kit.  Children are also asked to bring in a water bottle so they can have a drink throughout the day.  We have fruit and milk at school, during break time and parents provide a healthy packed lunch for lunchtime.

We hope you enjoy looking at the photos of us working, playing and exploring in RCH! Come and visit us again soon...!
