On Monday we learnt about staying healthy and parts of our body. We began the day by watching a theatre group perform, teaching us about the importance of healthy eating and exercising regularly. We all really enjoyed the performance and liked joining in with the rhyme: snack it, dip it, add it, sprinkle it and drink it! In the afternoon, we worked in small groups to draw around a group member and label parts of the body. Some of us could even name parts inside our bodies! We then went into Miss Hayward’s class and learnt how to sing Head Shoulders Knees and Toes.....in French!
On Tuesday we had a surprise visit from a variety of creatures. Some people came to visit our school to teach us about different animals and where they live. We all had to be patient and wait our turn to get the chance to touch and hold some of the animals. We were all very excited and had to be very brave! We then worked with Professor Bird to learn how to make bubbles. We learnt how bubbles are made and that all bubbles are sphere shaped no matter what shape wand you have. At the end Professor Bird made a huge bubble - it was amazing! We had a very exciting morning!
In the afternoon, we learnt about keeping healthy. We made a healthy lunch box, a healthy plate, sorted food into unhealthy and healthy groups and did some exercise too. We were all exhausted by the end!
On Wednesday we all transformed into scientists. As a class, we decided on some important rules to follow when taking part in investigations and experiments and then entered our laboratories! We used magnets to find buried treasure; we investigated Shark Pepper Water - moving pepper when you put your finger in the water! We put into practice what we had learnt with Professor Bird and made our own bubbles. The most exciting experiment was making volcanoes!
On Thursday we went back into our laboratories and took part in some more investigations. We made raisins dance in sparkling water and lemonade and we put food colouring into milk and witnessed wonderful patterns. In the afternoon, we all took part in a sponsored skip. We felt our heartbeat before and looked at each others cheeks....then we took part in the skipping! Once we had finished we felt our heartbeat again. It was good fun learning how to Jump Rope and practice skills to help us to learn how to skip.
On Friday, we shared all the experiments and investigations we had done throughout the week in assembly. As a year group we all sang Head Shoulders Knees and Toes.....in French! Everyone was very impressed with our performance. We all enjoyed listening and looking at what the other classes had done too! Our favourite thing was Miss Webb’s class chicken noises. In the afternoon and for our big science week finale, we watched a ‘volcano’ erupt outside in the playground. We all had to stand back and watch carefully. We all thoroughly enjoyed the experiment and couldn’t believe how high the ‘lava’ went.
RKS’s Professors had a very busy week, but had a brilliant time and learnt a lot. Please take a look at the photos in the gallery below…
