Chinese New Year Celebrations

We have had a wonderful time this week in class RCH!

It was fun learning all about the festival of Chinese New Year and what happens during the celebrations.  We learnt that people gift gifts to each other, light lanterns and have a special meal.

At the start of the week we began to make a dragon's head for our dragon dance.  Mrs Barnett helped us and we added lots of decoration and colour to make it special.  We learnt that red is a lucky colour for Chinese people.

It was tricky making the lanterns as we had to cut them carefully.  Our classroom looks very pretty now! On Wednesday we went to the Cocoa Pod to create some pictures of lanterns and dragons on the computer.  They were very impressive!

We celebrated Chinese New Year at the end of the week by doing our very own dragon dance and having a special meal! It was fun being the dragon and dancing to the music - we had to be careful to follow the leader and stay under the cover! We tasted noodles, water chestnuts, bamboo shoots and prawn crackers. We didn't think the bamboo shoots or water chestnuts were too tasty but we finished all the prawn crackers! It was such a special and very exciting day, thankyou to all who helped.

Take a look at the photos and a short video clip of our Chinese Dragon Dance!
