Miss Cooper's Class

Dear Parents,

A warm welcome to 1SC’s class page! Here you will find information about our exciting learning experiences in and around school, as well as pictures of our lessons, school trips and special events.

In our class we are lucky enough to have Miss Jacob, Miss Pinkney and Miss Bryan to help us with our learning. Miss Cooper, our class teacher, has just joined us this year so we have been showing her how hard-working and eager we are during lessons.

We do Phonics every morning, in which we get to learn new sounds and play special games to help us remember some tricky spellings. In Literacy this half-term, we will be looking at familiar stories and participating in drama experiences. This improves our speaking and listening skills and plants the seeds for interesting ideas in our writing.

In Numeracy we are learning our number bonds to 10, simple addition and subtraction, the properties of shape, time, money and measures. These topics will all be revisited over the course of the year. In Science, we are concentrating on sound, hearing, light and dark. We will also be making predictions and conducting investigations to contribute towards our scientific skills!

On Mondays we learn French and we are beginning to master numbers to 20, colours, fruit and vegetables and simple phrases...très bien! We also have two ICT sessions in the Cocoa Pod during the week. We sometimes use these sessions to enhance our learning in subjects in the curriculum, but we are also learning to draw, add text, animate and add sound to our work.

We also love being active and we do P.E./Dance on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. Please make sure our kit is labelled so we don’t get too muddled up! After all this hard work we deserve a well earned rest on Friday afternoon’s, so we have Golden Time! Cooking will start after October half term on a Friday afternoon, so we would love some parents to come and help us in the kitchen.
