Miss Hayward's Class

Welcome to RCH!

We hope you enjoy reading about our class and looking at the photos of what we get up to in RCH!
Miss Hayward is the class teacher and Mrs Barnett is the Learning Support Assistant.  Bertie and Pip are our special class teddies. They are all very friendly!

Our school day starts with a Phonics session where we learn letter sounds that will help us to read and write.  Phonics is fun! We like to learn rhymes and play games.  We particularly like being 'Sound Detectives'.

Each morning there are small group sessions where we learn something new in Literacy and Mathematics.  'Hotspots' around the classroom challenge us to learn a little more and we are encouraged to find things out for ourselves!

In the afternoons, we explore our half termly topic (our Curriculum Newsletter will show you more about topics this term).  Everyday we finish with a story, songs or music.
P.E. and ICT takes place on a Monday morning.  We love visiting the Cocoa Pod, where we learn to work on computers.  On Thursday afternoons we have a cookery session with parent helpers! On Friday afternoons we learn French.

Every Friday, a child in our class takes home Pip the Bear for the weekend! They keep a diary of what Pip gets up to and share it with the class on a Monday.

The Reception environment lets us explore and discover things for ourselves.  We use both classrooms, the shared Quiet room and the outside area.  We also like to visit our school Environmental Area to explore and investigate! Reception also have some exciting trips and themed days which extend our learning outside the classroom.

Our days in RCH are filled with learning in a playful, exciting way.  We explore, discover, experiment, investigate and communicate.  We respond the the children's interests, needs and what is happening in the world around them.  Our teaching and learning is underpinned by the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum - recognising every child is unique and that children develop in the context of relationships and the environment around them.

We hope you enjoy looking at the photos of us in RCH.  Come and visit our class page again soon!
