Owl Visit 5.10.17

What a fantastic day we have had! All week excitement has been building in Elm Class ready for our visit from the owls...

We have enjoyed our work on 'Owl Babies' this week and the visit from Archie, Gizmo and Spike was a real treat which really enriched our learning in a very special way.

Our day begun with meeting Archie the Barn Owl, Gizmo the Faced Scops Owl and Spike the Great Horned Owl. We learnt all about their species including where they originated from and how they are adapted to survive in the wild. Some of us even had the opportunity to take part in a 'flight' where one of the owls flew to our hand - we were very brave!

Later in the day we created our very own Barn Owls, thinking about the different features we had noticed that Archie had. We included a heart-shaped face, white fluffy feathers and a sharp beak too.

It was then time to visit the owls again and take part in our final activity of the day - an observational drawing - we were fantastic artists!

We had a wonderful and memorable day which will no doubt be a highlight of Year 1 for us all.

What a hoot!
