Phonics Fun

Phonics is taught for 20 minutes every morning in Year 2. We recap phase 5 graphemes (written letter or letter groups) for the phonemes (sounds) which the children already know, whilst reminding them of the different ways of pronouncing the graphemes they already know. We also Teach phase 6 which works on spelling, including prefixes and suffixes, doubling and dropping letters.

We use a variety of teaching and learning methods to ensure that all the children are engaged including online games, reading, word hunts, whiteboard work and spelling practice. Here are a few photos and a short video of Chestnut class during one of our Phonics lessons.
