Ms Turner's Class

Dear Parents,

Welcome to the class page for 1CT! We have written this page to let you know about all the exciting things that we get up to in school.

Ms Turner is our teacher and Ms Jacobs is our LSA. We all really enjoy being part of 1CT - school is fun! We are working really hard and we are improving every day.

A Typical Day

We begin each day with changing our reading books. We love all the interesting stories we read in school. When we have changed our reading books, we practise cursive handwriting. We try to form the letters correctly and write neatly.

After handwriting, we have Phonics. In Phonics we learn new sounds which will help us with our spelling and our reading.

Before break, we have Literacy. This term we have been writing stories about bears and owls, addressing and delivering a parcel to a friend, writing a letter, describing an alien using lots of adjectives, writing poetry about our senses and the food we like. We even wrote a song about food and performed our songs in an X Factor style competition!  We also like to write and draw pictures using a computer. We are all trying hard to write in complete sentences using capital letters and full-stops. We also try to write in neat, joined up handwriting.

After break is Numeracy. This term so far we have looked at counting to 20 and above, largest and smallest numbers, adding and subtracting, 2D and  3D shapes, money, tallest and smallest, measuring using centimetres, sorting objects in to a Venn Diagram, ordering objects into a pictogram and capacity. Wow! That is lots of work! We are very clever!

In the afternoon we have exciting subjects such as Science, Religious Education, Art, Music, French, History and Geography. On Tuesdays and Thursdays we have PE so it is important that our kit is labelled with our name so that we don't get our clothes muddled up!

We get given our new spelling words on a Wednesday and need to learn these for a test on the following Monday. Of course, we also need to read every evening so that we can enjoy more and more interesting stories!

We are going to be very busy in Year 1 but we do have lots of fun too!
