Year 1 - 01.03.21

Hello Year 1!

We hope that you had a wonderful Arts and English Week last week! We were amazed by all the lovely photos that you sent and many of these pieces can be found in the Virtual Art Gallery.

We also hope that you had a lovely weekend where we saw some delightful Spring sunshine! This is so welcome after all our freezing weather!

This week we are learning about silent letters in Phonics and we are also concentrating on some tricky trigraphs...

In English we are learning all about keeping our teeth healthy; we know that it is so important to look after our teeth as we only have two sets!

In Maths we are going to be measuring in practical ways and also measuring using standard unit of measure. How would you like to learn all about 'The Great Fire of London?' Do you know how this famous fire started? Do you know why it started? Well this week you will be finding out!

Guess what? This is very exciting! On Thursday it is...

It is World Book Day on Thursday 4th March so look out for some fun activities on the Weekly Planner!

The theme this year is ‘Share a Story’.  Here is a link to ‘Share A Story Corner’ videos https://www.worldbookday.com/share-a-story-corner/  where you can find familiar characters, easy to follow stories, and tips for reading together. Look at the pictures, guess what the characters are up to and think about what might happen next.  Sharing stories boosts creativity and imaginationimproves wellbeing, is a positive experience everyone! – and is great fun!

There is also a link to ‘World of Stories Audiobooks’ to listen to  https://www.worldbookday.com/world-of-stories/

Take part in our Reading Challenge created to encourage reading at home and find lots of exciting ways you can share stories – not just at bedtime! Tick off a Reading Star each time you complete a reading task and receive your World Book Day certificate when you complete all 12 challenges! Please email a photograph of your completed Reading Challenge and you will receive a Reading Challenge certificate when you return to school.

Finally, look out for the World Book Day Rainbow on Thursday to hear lots more exciting stories!

We hope you have a good week of learning Year 1 but as always, don't worry if you cannot complete all of the work. We know how hard you are working at home.

We are missing you lots but we will see you very soon!

Take care,

Love from,

Mrs West and Mrs Bagley xx
