Thank you so much to the many, many Mums and Dads and family members who attended our Harvest Festival Service. It was an absolutely joyous occasion and the children both performed and behaved beautifully. The Year R children performed confidently for the very first time to such a big crowd, the choir and school councillors sang and spoke so clearly and year 1 and 2 performances were assured and joyful. We have had some lovely feedback from parents and governors and it was a truly wonderful way to finish off our first half term of the year.
Helen, from the One Can Trust, also joined us and spoke to the children about where their contributions would be going and how many families in our local area would be helped. It is so important to give back and, as the foodbank needs our help all year, we will look for more opportunities to support them in this way. Helen was delighted to take away 26 large boxes of donations so thank you to you all.
Year 2 fantastic day at the Chiltern Open Air Museum where they took part in three Victorian workshops. First, they learned about Victorian toys and how they compare with toys today. They were very excited to play with the toys and made a spinner to take home. Next, they spent some time in the Victorian school where they were taught lessons by a Victorian teacher! They wrote with chalk on slate boards and found out how strict schools used to be! After that they looked at Victorian artefacts and tried to guess what they were used for. The ceramic hot water bottle and wooden back straightener were the hardest to guess! Finally they found out how hard it was to do washing in Victorian times but they really enjoyed pegging the washing to the line”.
